Non-US samplers Visa information

Obtaining your visa - Officially, the US Consulate is the only place to obtain a G-4 visa and you are instructed to visit the consulate the last business day before you plan to enter the US . Although in the past, many of you have obtained visas at border crossings, there is a chance you may encounter difficulties obtaining or be denied your visa at a border crossing.

At the border - If you do opt to try your luck at the border, your best bet is the main, Peace Arch crossing. Additionally if you opt to obtain your visa at the border, notify Mike Larsen (ext 204) or Melissa Knapp (ext. 205) one week before you intend to cross the border so IPHC can fax supporting documents to the border agents prior to your arrival. This year some of IPHC port sampling staff have had to pay $6 USD in order to obtain their G-4. Therefore, be sure to have $6 USD cash on you when you cross the border.

Insurance -  If you decide to use your own insurance and purchase additional coverage for work in the U.S. (for Canadians) or Canada (for U.S. citizens), it is very important that your coverage is not only for travel but also for WORK abroad. If you are unsure, the IPHC will provide separate health insurance coverage for the term of employment.

Call Mike Larsen (ext 204) to get more details and the most current information.
