1995 Halibut Landing Report No. 8

Central Oregon Sport Fishery Closes July 4

The preliminary catch estimate for the 1995 sport halibut fishery inside the 30-fathom curve nearest to the coastline from Cape Falcon (latitude 45°46'00"N.) to the Florence North Jetty (Siuslaw River, latitude 44°01'08"N.) indicates the 3,314 catch limit will be reached on July 4. Therefore, the sport halibut fishery in this area will close at 11:59 p.m. on July 4.

Southwest Washington Sport Fishery Closes July 4

The preliminary catch estimate for the 1995 sport halibut fishery in southwest Washington waters from the Queets River (latitude 47°31'42"N.) south to Leadbetter Point (46°38'10"N.) indicates the 15,222 pound catch limit will be reached on July 4. Therefore, the sport halibut fishery in this area will close at 11:59 p.m. on July 4.

Non-treaty Area 2A Commercial Opening

The directed commercial Area 2A fishery has fishing period limits and is restricted to waters that are south of Point Chehalis, Washington (46°53'18"N. latitude) under regulations promulgated by the National Marine Fisheries Service and published in the Federal Register. The fishing period limits were announced in Halibut Landing Report No. 2. The fishery on July 5 shall begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. local time.
