1999 Halibut Landing Report No. 2
Quota Share Commercial Fishery Update
It is estimated that the following catches and number of landings were
made in the British Columbia IVQ, and in the Alaskan IFQ fishery through May 13, 1999. No
Community Development Quota (CDQ) landings have been made.

The Alaskan catch represents 24% of the
catch limit. For comparison, from March 15 to May 18, 1998, 11.4 million pounds or 20% of
the 1998 catch limit were landed in the Alaskan IFQ fishery. From March 15 to May 18,
1998, 4.2 million pounds or 32% of the catch limit were landed from Area 2B (British
Columbia) compared to 36% in 1999.
Northwest Treaty Tribes Fishery in Area 2A
In 1999 the Northwest treaty Indian tribes were allocated a total
allowable catch of 266,000 pounds in subarea 2A-1 (northern Washington coast); 10,000
pounds are reserved for ceremonial and subsistence purposes, leaving 256,000 pounds for
the treaty Indian commercial fishery. The unrestricted fishery catch of 216,430 pounds was
taken in three openings and is under the catch limit by 1,170 pounds. The restricted
fishery is limited to 500 pounds per trip and the catch of 45,088 pounds exceeded the
catch limit by 6,688 pounds. The treaty Indian commercial halibut fishery closed for the
year on April 22 with a total catch of 261,518 pounds, 5,518 pounds over the catch limit.
