Quota Share Commercial Fishery Update

It is estimated that the following catches and numbers of landings were made in the British Columbia IVQ and in the Alaskan IFQ/CDQ fisheries through September 14, 2000.

The Alaskan catch represents 80% of the catch limit. For comparison, from March 15 to September 12, 1999, 48.2 million pounds, or 79% of the 1999 catch limit, were landed in the Alaskan IFQ/CDQ fishery. From March 15 to September 14, 1999, 10.0 million pounds, or 83% of the catch limit, were landed from Area 2B (British Columbia) compared to 79% in 2000.

Annette Island Reserve Fishery in Area 2C

The Metlakatla Indian community has been authorized by the United States Government to conduct a commercial halibut fishery within the Annette Island Reserve. Eleven 48-hour fishing periods occurred between April 29 and September 3, with a total catch of 49,124 pounds. The Metlakatla Indian Community and the Bureau of Indian Affairs will announce future halibut openings.

One-day Central Oregon Coast All-depth Recreational Halibut Fishery Open Friday, September 22, 2000

The all-depth recreational halibut fishery between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain will be open for one-day on Friday, September 22, 2000. Action was taken under the Catch Sharing Plan to transfer 5,000 pounds from the Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain inside 30-fathom curve fishery in order for this fishery to take place. Only 14,000 pounds remained in the all-depth quota and the additional 5,000 pounds is expected to cover the estimated catch of 19,000 pounds.
