Northwest Treaty Tribes Fishery in Area 2A

Of the 424,000 pound treaty halibut allocation, 17,500 pounds were directed toward ceremonial and subsistence, while the remaining 406,500 pounds were divided between restricted and unrestricted commercial fisheries. The first restricted fishery (March 15 to April 15, limit: 500 lbs./vessel/day) took 62,323 pounds in 211 landings, while the first unrestricted fishery (March 21 to March 23, 60 hrs) took 204,005 pounds in 59 landings. A 24-hr mop up fishery from April 19 to 20 took an additional 116,280 pounds in 29 landings. With 23,892 pounds remaining in the catch limit, a second restricted opening (limit: 500 lbs./vessel/day) was held from April 25 to May 11, which landed 29,042 pounds in 77 trips.

In total, the treaty tribes caught 411,650 pounds in the 2001 commercial fishery, a 1.3 % overage of the commercial catch limit.
