The Alaskan catch represents 97% of the 2005 catch limit. For comparison, during the 2004 season, 59.0 million pounds, or 96% of the 2004 catch limit, were landed in the Alaskan fishery. The British Columbian catch represents 105% of the 2005 catch limit.  The apparent excess is due to carryover poundage from the 2004 fishery, which is not included in the 2005 catch limit. During the 2004 Area 2B fishery, 12.1 million pounds, or 96% of the catch limit, were landed from Area 2B.  The 2005 quota share halibut fisheries opened on February 27 and closed on November 15.
