2006 HALIBUT LANDING REPORT NO. 1
Quota
Share Commercial Fisheries Update
The
2006 quota share halibut fisheries opened on March 5, one week
later than the 2005 opening date.
It is estimated that
the following catches and numbers of landings were made in the
Alaskan IFQ fishery through April 17, 2006 and in the British
Columbian IVQ fishery through April 13, 2006.
No Alaskan Community Development Quota (CDQ) landings have
been made.

The Alaskan catch represents 14% of the 2006 catch limit. For
comparison, from February 27 to April 18, 2005, 8.7 million
pounds, or 15% of the 2005 catch limit, were landed in the Alaskan
fishery. Comparing
the number of days opened, 6.4 million pounds, or 11% of the catch
limit, were delivered after 43 days of the 2005 season.
The British Columbian catch represents 27% of the 2006
catch limit. Between February 27 and April 14, 2005, 2.4 million
pounds, or 20% of the 2005 catch limit, were landed from Area 2B. Comparing the number of days opened, 2.2 million
pounds, or 19% of the catch limit, were delivered after 39 days of
the 2005 season.
