2007 HALIBUT LANDING REPORT NO. 1
Quota
Share Commercial Fisheries Update
The 2007 quota share halibut fisheries opened on March
10. It
is estimated that the following catches and numbers of landings
were made in the Alaskan IFQ fishery through April 17, 2007 and
in the British Columbian IVQ fishery through April 18, 2007.
No Alaskan Community Development Quota (CDQ) landings
have been made so far in 2007.

The Alaskan
catch represents 10% of the 2007 catch limit. For comparison,
7.8 million pounds, or 14% of the 2006 catch limit, were landed
in the Alaskan fishery between March 5 and April 17, 2006.
The British Columbian catch represents 26% of the 2007
catch limit. For
comparison, 3.2 million pounds, or 27% of the 2006 catch limit,
were landed from Area 2B between March 5 and April 13, 2006.
Area 2A
Commercial Tribal Fisheries
In 2007, the Treaty Indian tribes of Area
2A-1 were allocated 461,000 pounds of halibut for commercial use
by the Pacific Fishery Management Council.
As of April 3, 92,877 pounds have been landed by the Treaty
tribes.
