CALL FOR REGULATORY AND CATCH LIMIT PROPOSALS
2013 INTERIM MEETING AND 2014 ANNUAL MEETING ANNOUNCEMENTS
EXPANSION OF IPHC'S WEB PRESENCE
This IPHC News Release includes:
- An invitation to submit regulatory and catch limit proposals for consideration at the 2014 Annual Meeting
- The announcement of the 2013 Interim Meeting
- The announcement of the 2014 Annual Meeting, and
- News about the expanded IPHC presence on the web, including a Facebook page.
The Commission invites the public to submit requests for 2014 regulatory changes (season length, clearances in Area 4, logbook reporting measures, etc.) or management actions for review at the Annual Meeting. The deadline date for submission is November 1, 2013. The Commission will not guarantee consideration of proposals received after this date. The submission form can be downloaded from the Annual Meeting page of the Commission's website (http://www.iphc.int/meetings-and-events/annual-meeting.html) or can be requested by calling the Commission offices at (206) 634-1838. A summary of all proposals will be posted on the IPHC website when available.
The International Pacific Halibut Commission's Interim Meeting will be held in Seattle, Washington, on Wednesday, December 4 and Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the offices of the IPHC. The meeting will begin at 8:30am PST on Wednesday and run through Thursday afternoon.
Again this year, all sessions will be webcast (except for the finance and administration session at the end of the second day) and the webcast is open to the public. Webcast audience members will be able to submit questions for the presenters and/or Commissioners during these sessions.
The draft agenda, registration for the webcasts, and other Interim Meeting information will be posted at the meeting page of the Commission's website: http://www.iphc.int/meetings-and-events/340-im2013.html. This information will be updated as the agenda and other details are finalized. Results from the meeting, including staff assessment of the stock and the preliminary harvest decision table, will be published in a news release and made available on IPHC website after the Interim Meeting.
The Commission will distribute a brief summary of stock assessment information and the preliminary harvest decision table as soon as possible following the 2013 Interim Meeting. This information will also be available on the Commission's webpage at http://www.iphc.int. The Commission invites proposals for 2014 catch limits or harvest advice. Comments should be submitted to the Commission by December 31, 2013. A summary of all proposals will be posted on the IPHC website when available.
The Ninetieth Annual Meeting of the International Pacific Halibut Commission will be held from Monday, January 13 through Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Grand Hyatt Seattle in Seattle, Washington. This year's meeting is scheduled to open on Monday with presentations on the fishery, the 2013 stock assessment, and the harvest decision table, and conclude on Friday with Commission approval of catch limits and regulations.
The changes which were made to the Annual Meeting schedule and format in 2013 to make its proceedings more open and transparent are being continued this year. All public sessions and administrative sessions will be open to the public. These open sessions will also be webcast.
The Grand Hyatt Seattle is located at 721 Pine Street in downtown Seattle. A block of rooms has been reserved for Annual Meeting attendees at the hotel until December 23, 2013 at a special rate of $137, plus taxes. The 2014 IPHC Annual Meeting Schedule of Sessions and the corresponding hotel meeting room locations will be released in December 2013. The most up-to-date information regarding the Annual Meeting can be found on the Annual Meeting page of the Commission's website (http://www.iphc.int/meetings-and-events/annual-meeting.html) or by calling the IPHC office at (206) 634-1838. The Commission's website will be updated regularly with new information, including the agenda and meeting reports and presentations, as the meeting date approaches.
IPHC on Facebook
The International Pacific Halibut Commission is now on Facebook. You can find the new page at facebook.com/InternationalPacificHalibutCommission or by selecting the blue "f" Facebook icon on the IPHC website (http://www.iphc.int).
The new page allows the Commission to better serve the halibut community by sharing information interactively with a wide audience. Highlighting scientific research, programs, events and meetings, and the Commission staff, along with educational material regarding Pacific halibut and its habitat, the page serves as a convenient gateway to all things halibut. The IPHC website remains in service as the primary Commission public information resource, and Facebook visitors will be directed to the website for authoritative background information and details.
