Welcome to my Home on the Internet. On these pages I am attempting to keep current items of both personal and professional interest. While I am always changing the information and links on my Web site, I would appreciate knowing of any errors you find or problems you have while surfing through here. You will find full contact details for me at the bottom of this page.

I have worked at the Halibut Commission since February 1995. For two years, I worked predominantly on issues related to the bycatch of halibut in non-directed fisheries. In January 1997, I began conducting research on interdecadal variability in halibut biology. This work closely relates to research I undertook as part of my Ph. D. at the University of Washington.

By the way, in case you were wondering about the background image I use for this page. It is comprised of two world maps. The upper map shows sea surface temperature conditions during a positive phase of an ocean-atmosphere phenomenon called the Pacific Decadal Oscillation ("PDO", which I am credited for naming). The bottom map shows conditions during a positive phase of the well known El Nino Southern Oscillation ("ENSO"). You can read about the relationship between these two oscillations in a (not so) recently published paper:

Mantua, N. J., S. R. Hare, Y. Zhang, J.M. Wallace, and R.C. Francis. 1997.  A Pacific interdecadal climate oscillation with impacts on salmon production. Bulletin American Meteorological Society 78:1069-1079.
